If people hat Cricket it's usually for one of three reasons:

1.) Cricket-branded handsets are sub-par compared to Verizon. And the higher-end flagship phones are very expensive because Cricket doesn't subsidize the pricing due to long-term contracts.

2.) Cricket billing can be confusing to some people. They claim to be flat-rate but in reality there are several things you can do to alter the amount you pay each month.

3.) Cricket customer service is considered lacking.

If I were you, I would get a better phone. A cheap handset is just that--a cheap piece of crap and it will be difficult for you to enjoy pridefully.

If you can't afford a new phone, try finding one on Craig's List or eBay.

The best Cricket-branded handset IMHO are the Nokia 6265i and 6275i and the Motorola KRZR k1m.

If you are more enterprising, you could browse another CDMA carrier's selection of phones and flash it over to Cricket OR hire someone to do it for you.

But my recommendations are the Nokia's and Motorola I listed above. Sure they are expensive but they are 1000 times better than the phone you have.

Let us know what you decide!

I like the no contracts. Other then that I would probably go elsewhere. I just bought a new phone because the Lingo although awesome with its keyboard did not have a extra memory compatibility.

I got the new Samsung Messager, because it is more customizable, but I just with they would not limit us to what we can do.

I would love to install Google Talk on my phone, but noooo Cricket does not let us. I would PAY to use Gtalk on my Cricket phone even though its free, if Cricket would let us.

They stifle themselves, I dont know how they want to grow, and at the same time cripple themselves.

Like not letting cricket users use Twitter, because they do not accept the use of short codes.

Simple things like that is what is keeping Cricket back, AND their dang out sourcing customer support. For once I'd like to get someone with no accent, because sometimes its real hard to understand what they are saying.

Alas though, that last thing seems to be a trouble with a lot of companies.
