Lightbulb TIP: An Easy MMS/MySpace/etc. Workaround

As some of you well know, Cricket has limited offerings for things like mobile alerts and provider-agnostic MMS services.

For example, whenever there is activity on my MySpace account, I want to get an alert on my Cricket phone. The problem is that MySpace doesn't offer mobile services to Cricket yet.

But I have found an easy workaround for this:

First, I set-up a new Google Mail (Gmail) account that I use solely as an alias for my Cricket phone. For it, I set-up the alias: myNickname_myMobilenumber@gmail.com

I then go to the Gmail settings and choose the "filters" tab. To get emails from MySpace, I simply put MySpace as the criteria for the filter and then choose "Next Step".

I then set-up the action. I choose "Forward it to", and then enter my mobile MMS address, which is yourMobileNumber@mms.mycricket.com

I then activate the filter, and, voilą! Whenever I get an alert from MySpace, it is instantly forwarded to my mobile phone via MMS!

You can do the same for sending picture/multimedia messages from other providers to Cricket as well: Just send the MMS to your Gmail alias for your phone, then set-up a Gmail filter that forward from that sender to your Cricket phone. (You used to be able to email your Cricket phone directly, but for some reason, this stopped working for me. *shrugs*)

Recently, I got sick of having more than one Gmail account. So I created a filter in my personal account that automatically skips the inbox and deletes anything MySpace related so as not to pollute my personal inbox with MySpace alerts. I can still browse the messages from the trash and delete them forever after I am done.

You can use any email client that supports rules and/or filters, such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, or Entourage.

This is a good alternative until Cricket can offer their Info & Email services to ALL of their current WAP-enabled handsets!

That's a great idea, but I need some help with it. I have a Kyocera Energi phone. Don't know if it's MMS compatible. Too boot, I am also on Jump, not Cricket. Can I still do that? Does Cricket have some way to send that as a Text message?

    Hello,
Could you tell me how you can do this with yahoo mail? I have a lg vx8100 that was flashed from verizon to cricket and when I sent text messages from yahoo mail to the phone using #@mms.mycricket.com for some reason it cannot download the message because it says that its a picture message, but I only sent text?

Please help, I would like to know how to get emails from my yahoo account in my cricket phone...

I just send them to #@mms.mycricket.com . Why it dosen't work for you i don't know what to tell you. Can you even receive or send MMS? To register your phone with Yahoo you have to tell yahoo your phone is a PDA\PAGER DEVISE & then enter your cricket phone email

    send or receive mms

Like I said, I can send mms but when I send mms through email, like yahoo, it gives me the option to download the message but it tell me that it can't download it becuase it's a pic message.
