    Cricket Web / Internet Scam..

Sure I'll get flak for this but I wanted to point out to many that are probably looking at Cricket for their service, to be warned that their web browsing IS VERY LIMITED.

DO NOT expect to be able to browse websites that you need to get to for work of pleasure that you would normally be able to from a home computer or 'real' wireless provider.

After long search, speaking to multiple clueless cricket reps, I finally found a great person who helped me out and shot it to me straight. Basically he reaffirmed what I had thought. YOU CAN NOT visit any website that is not within the Cricket Approved portal. Basically, it is just a lame excuse for a lack of ability on their part. I can get to several website I'm sure cricket has NEVER heard of, however when I try to get to sites that have any login for work or personal stuff, I get a:
    ERROR: 403 FORBIDDEN.
Rendering their service useless to me

I was really hoping to get cricket and ditch my verizon but alas I can not.

Yes you can log into mail from yahoo, google etc - but what about all the other sites you may need to visit?

Their phones are not ready for the bigtime yet.

I asked several reps why this was, even called in and I was put into tech support that created a ticket for me that lasted several days until I returned my phone and cancelled my plan. Finally I spoke to a supervisor that could not understand why the phone agents did not tell me that the web browsing is limited. He said they do this purposely because the other wireless providers are pressuring them and paying them off to keep this limited. Big business...gotta love it.

Right. I am still with cricket simply because of no credit checks/contracts/deposits and the unlimited access (unlimited minutes) however it would steal major business from the other carriers because IMO that is the only thing that is lacking with Cricket service(besides nationwide coverage areas). I have the kx5 and to be honest I was FURIOUS when i saw the new phones that they acquired were BELOW the kx5 in features.. It's like they're working backwards now.. WTF? I was sure the next series of phones would be more feature rich and was really hoping to have a better web browsing ability.. I must have been crazy

this is complete hogwash. it's so stupid I can barely comment on it.

Yes the browsing is limited. it is not sold as internet access, it's called mobile web. for a reason.

It may expand once evdo pops but not before then.

Not saying I believe they are paid off, however Everyone has been talking about ev-do this and ev-do that.. for over 6 months now.. but WTF? where is it..? where are facts that support the notion that ev-do is even coming? Do we have a shining light of hope at least or is it just a pipe dream?

it's coming. People act like it's no big thing to upgrade a network. It's taking verizon and sprint years to get theirs done, so why would anyone expect cricket to suddenly just poop out evdo? It'll happen when it happens, it's not like anyone is being charged for it at the moment.

Well here is the facts..well the little amount of them. and mind you the first was back in 4th quarter '05. And in the 2nd says it will be rolled out in 2006.. Does anybody else have any backable info? I'm not expecting a miracle.. I'd just like to be informed of the status and possible date of completion.

The fact of the matter is you say you have Verizon now... and from what I know about Verizon you can't access certain websites and no URL's at all. In fact I used to be a technician for Verizon Wireless and used to have to listen to people like you complaining all day every day. I've said it before I'll say it again; as consumers we are all very, very spoiled, we complain about everything, and if something that WE think should work DOESN'T we get angry. This is very stupid of us, as our expectations of products and their abilities are very high, most of the time too high. I mean what do we expect? The manufacturers don't care about updating their products they care about upgrading them. Meaning, instead of fixing a known issue they will still let it be sold and then charge you a fortune to either upgrade it or replace it. That's what I ran into working for Verizon anyway, not to mention my own company's ventures.
