okay, im a little confused on how to change my monthly plan to another monthly plan??

so i have the 50 dollar plan that is a discount of 45 dollars. i want the 45 dollar plan which would change to 40 dollars. this is what the cricket website says:

It depends on whether you’ve paid your monthly access fee that month, and whether your new plan amount is higher or lower than your current plan amount.

If you haven’t paid your monthly access fee, you can simply change your plan. If you have sufficient funds to start a new month of service, we’ll charge you automatically and your new month of service will start right away. If you don’t have sufficient funds to start a new month of service, just top-up when you’re ready, and your new month will start then.

If you HAVE paid your monthly access fee and your new plan amount is higher than your current plan amount, you must have sufficient funds available to pay the difference between your current plan and the monthly plan you selected. For example, if you paid your $40 monthly access fee and want to switch to the $45 per month plan, you must pay $5 to complete the plan change. You will have access to the features of your new plan right away. Your month-end date will not change.

If you HAVE paid your monthly access fee and your new plan amount is lower than your current plan amount, you will lose all the features of your current plan, which you have already paid for. You will only have access to the features available in your new plan. We are not able to give you a refund or credit for those features. You may want to wait until the end of your service month before making this change. Your month-end date will not change.

When changing between plans, remember to dial *228 to complete the plan change. If you forget to dial *228 after your plan change, your roaming indicator may not function properly. All other features, functionality, and pricing will work correctly.

i am just not clear on this. i've had this phone since december, i've paid the bill for january, not february, which is due march 15. if i change my plan now, will this charge me anything extra? i am changing from a plan to a lower plan.
