Cool Data plan needed for analog modem call??

This is the situation: I don't have a data plan, I call with my V3c a dialup number (so I am not using bandwith from Cricket) just regular airtime to connect to my ISP.

The razr does indeed recognize the call as a data call, but this shouldn't imply that Cricket blocks it for lack of a data plan, as I am not connecting to their internet but my own ISP. Am I wrong here? I've been having difficulties to connect that is why I am asking.

It would be like SWBell blocking a landline modem call for not getting their DSL.

    Can somebody clarify?

    Thanks.
    Alejandro

Thumbs down Cricket disables features on the V3c phones (probably pressured by Verizon)

That is right, is not going to help. I talked to Motorola and they say the phone can be used as a modem, but the Verizon phones that Cricket gets have the AT commands disabled, so they have crippled one feature of the phone intentionally. That was not mentioned to me when I bought the V3c phone! Why would I supposed it can't be used as a modem when the manufacturer's web site says so? Furthermore they say Mobile Phone Tools will not work with Cricket phones.

Cricket is no help and they are not willing to collaborate to reinstall these features. So watch out power users, the coolest things you can't do on a Cricket phone!

I guess the idea is: Verizon does not allow us to use our unlimited minutes on Cricket network with our laptops, so we go and buy their expensive blackberries and data plans.

I wish Cricket would stand for itself, by the way, Verizon got sued years ago for disabling features on phones. If cost is the reason the phones aren't precisely cheap either!

If somebody, somehow, has been succesful in using a Cricket V3c as a modem with a laptop, please let us know how. Neither Motorola nor Cricket are willing to assist!

    Thanks.

    Motorola Tools

I use Motorola Tools with my Cricket v3c. It' really glitchy on the log in sometimes, but it does work. I got tools off ebay with the cable for less than $10. Motorola tools wont work without the phone connected though. So if you loose your phone you cant get access to the phone list you synced beforehand! I really dont know what is up with that! If you go to www.motomodders.net they have a lot of information on the v3. They also have a link to software you can use to reprogram your phone. Hope this helps.

    Personal Risk :)

OK, I've taken the great personal risk of 10 bucks and bought the cable and soft on Ebay as you recommended. I will post results.

    Thanks,
    Alejandro

    sorry unclear

It seems I may have misinterpeted the original post and in turn someone did the same to mine. To clarify MPT works with the phone. I have not got it to work with the internet, yet. Everything else seems to work though. Sorry for any confusion.

    same results

I get the same results, makes sense because I am also in Cricket. I wonder if those "COMMANDS NOT SUPPORTED" is what Cricket disables to prevent the phone to work as a modem. And I wonder is this can be corrected may be by flashing the phone to an Alltel...

Let's see if somebody can help...
