Thumbs down Cricket Broadband is a joke

Ok I am using the new Cricket Broadband modem for my laptop and I gotta say I am very disappointed in the speed. Seriously my internet is just a little bit faster than dial up but not by much and my connection is at 100%. I ran a speed test and I am only getting 150kbps download speed and 126kbps upload speed. This really makes getting updates, watching videos or doing anything online really stressful.
Does anybody else have this problem?

I was wondering about that. I've heard, in the not so distant past, that other cell/broadband was pretty slow! I noticed at cricket.com they NEVER mention the actual speed or give you any numbers other than the different plans... thats a bad omen!

Broadband speeds were "capped" due to too many users tethering, which Cricket doesn't offer.

    What city are you in?
The normal speed I have seen is between 600-800kbps.
You have Cricket branded USB device correct?

I believe you are experiecing 1xRTT speeds. You do not have EVDO service in your market yet probably. This is equivalent to the difference between EDGE and 3G in GSM markets.

I just got mine two days ago and my speeds are just under 500 k/s down, and about 30 k/s up. So I would say it's about the equivalent of 512k DSL, or the minimum I would consider broadband to be.

When I bought it I was told that EVDO was just that day turned on in Portland, even though they've been advertising it as broadband EVDO service for months.

Personally, I'm *very* happy with this service, for $40/mo, a free month, and $60 for the modem I think it's a hell of a deal. By comparison, I am (and soon will not be) paying $30/mo for AT&T's 3G service which only works on my iPhone and isn't anywhere near as fast.
